Do your product experts run the other way when you ask to interview them for a blog post? Remind them what’s in it for them.
For example, if they answer your question now, they can avoid answering it for prospects and clients repeatedly in the future.
Your published blog post can serve as a knowledge base resource. Instead of answering the question in an email, they can just send a link to the blog post. This saves them time and shows the prospect or client that they didn’t just make up the answer on the spot. Your company is experienced, prepared, and one step ahead because the answer has already been published.
How to Get Blog Content From Your Billable Consultants
Here are some hints to get blog content from your billable consultants:
Use the “Record, Transcribe, Polish” method to make it easy for billable consultants to give you the product info you need.
Keep your interview calls SHORT and painless. One topic, ten minutes, done.
Keep a document in a shared folder that lists titles and links to published blog posts for easy reference.
Send an email to the entire company each month listing recently published blogs (and thanking the author).
When you have written several posts like this, list the most popular ones on an FAQ page on your website.
Ask your team members what questions prospects or customers ask them repeatedly. Tell them you’re willing to help them out by publishing the answer as a blog post if they’ll just get on a call for 10 minutes.
If that doesn’t work, try gamification (aka bribery).
Create a Blogging Team
Some ERP and CRM partners have had success creating “blogging teams.” The team whose content gets the most views or clicks is praised in front of the entire company AND receives a prize. In this case, a sense of competition and the love of free stuff can work in your favor.
Show Your Team That Blogging Works
Blogging truly does work. More than 20% of the partners listed on our site have been group blog members for more than 10 years. They would not continue if it didn’t work.
Check out what other ISV and VAR partners have to say about the membership and share that link with your team so they can see their peers are doing it too.
